Shelby's Junior Prom

Shelby and her friends all got together to go on a "Day" date prior to Junior Prom. They chose to all go to Hollywood Connections in West Valley. They spent time there, dined at Training Table for a quick lunch, tried to go bowling at Delton Lanes but they had leagues going and ended up "cruising" Valley Fair mall before heading home to get ready for prom.

Shelby had her hair done by Megan Mcphie with Skissors Salon out of Heber, she is such a great friend and does a great job!
And here is the finished Shelby.....she is just gorgeous and way to grown up...AND YES SHE CHOSE THE PURPLE DRESS!!

Mackay came to pick Shelby up and brought her a beautiful wrist corsage. They make the cutest couple and really looked very elegant!

Shelby had a pretty purple rose made into a bootaneer for Mackay and she struggled trying to pin it on his jacket but she did it!

The went to Pasillas in Kamas for dinner (this is where Shelby works) and they had a nice table reserved especially for them!

The prom started at nine and Shelby's Junior class had a group photo done at 9:30, from there the "Promenade" the Junior class was first announced and then they performed for the parents.

After the "Promenade" they had the parent who bought the beautiful dresses and or tuxes dance with their child. Neal got to do the honors even though I bought the dress....ha ha!

We were able to get a few pictures of Shelby and Mackay dancing before they were off to get their professional photos done for the prom.

We then took some more photos of all of us together and dressed up for this special occassion and then we were off to let the cute couple have a fun time....needless to say we did not get home until 11:30! The promenade did not start until 10 pm...but she had a great time and Mackay is such a nice, respectful gentleman!

Don't forget your Mother!

MOTHERS

Real Mothers don't eat quiche;
They don't have time to make it.

Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils
Are probably in the sandbox.

Real Mothers often have sticky floors,
Filthy ovens and happy kids.

Real Mothers know that dried play dough
Doesn't come out of carpets.

Real Mothers don't want to know what
The vacuum just sucked up.

Real Mothers sometimes ask 'Why me?'
And get their answer when a little
Voice says, 'Because I love you best.'

Real Mothers know that a child's growth
Is not measured by height or years or grade...
It is marked by the progression of Mommy to Mom to Mother...

The Images of Mother

4 YEARS OF AGE - My Mommy can do anything!

8 YEARS OF AGE - My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!

12 YEARS OF AGE - My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.

14 YEARS OF AGE - Natural Mother doesn't know that, either.

16 YEARS OF AGE - Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.

18 YEARS OF AGE - That old woman? She's way out of date!

25 YEARS OF AGE - Well, she might know a little bit about it!

35 YEARS OF AGE - Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.

45 YEARS OF AGE - Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?

65 YEARS OF AGE - Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,
The place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she
Shows, and the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows!

THANKS MOM FOR TAKING THE TIME WITH MY CHILDREN! WE LOVE YOU!!

The Price of Children

Here is something absolutely positive for a change. We've repeatedly seen the breakdown of the cost of raising a child, but this is the first time I have seen the rewards listed this way. It's nice!

The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140.00 for a middle income family.
Talk about price shock! And that doesn't even touch college tuition.

But $160,140.00 isn't so bad if you break it down.
It translates into:
* $8,896.66 a year,
* $741.38 a month,
* $171.08 a week.
* A mere $24.24 a day!
* Just over a dollar an hour.

Still, you might think the best financial advice is: don't have children if you want to be "rich." Actually, it is just the opposite.

What do you get for your $160,140.00?
* Naming rights. First, middle, and last!
* Glimpses of God every day.
* Giggles under the covers every night.
* More love than your heart can hold.
* Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
* Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies.
* A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or chocolate.
* A partner for blowing bubbles and flying kites.
* Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day.

For $160,140.00, you never have to grow up.
You get to:
* finger-paint,
* carve pumpkins,
* play hide-and-seek,
* catch lightning bugs,
* never stop believing in Santa Claus.

You have an excuse to:
* keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh,
* watch Saturday morning cartoons,
* go to Disney movies, and
* wish on stars..

You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, handprints set in clay for Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day.

For a mere $24.24 a day, there is no greater bang for your buck.
You get to be a hero just for:
* retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof,
* taking the training wheels off a bike,
* removing a splinter,
* filling a wading pool,
* coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and
* coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.
You get a front row seat in history to witness the:
* First step,
* First word,
* First bra,
* First date,
* First time behind the wheel.

You get to be immortal. You get another branch added to your family tree, and, if you're lucky, a long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great- grandchildren. You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match..
In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God.
You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits, so one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost.
That is quite a deal for the price!!!!!!!

Love & enjoy your children & grandchildren & great-grandchildren!!!!!!! It's the best investment you'll ever make!!!!!!!!!

Shelby's Prom dress dilemma

Hi Everyone we need your vote! Shelby and I went Prom dress shopping and Shelby picked out a beautiful hot pink dress. My mother also went shopping in St. George and picked out an elegant purple dress. Now Shelby is having a hard time deciding between the two and we need your help. Please give us your feedback!!! The pink is a hot pink kind of watermelon color with beautiful silver embroidery throughout and the purple is a dark plum purple color. The photos don't really show the true colors...please give us your opinions!

Happy Birthday Fawn!

Today is Fawnie's birthday! She is a quarter of a century old! When I had little miss Addy at my house weekend before last, we recorded this little video to be released today and I thought I would share it. Addy had just woken up and we were sitting down for breakfast so for her it was a bad hair day that morning! Anyway, Fawn, we love you and hope you have a good day. Dad, Brenda, Shelby & Tyler ...and of course Addy in her video takes the cake!

Addy wearing lipstick!

Aunt Shelby put some lip gloss and Addy and taught her how to smoosh! This is so cute. My little angel we have had all weekend!

And then Uncle Tyler taught her to jump off one step, this is her jump!

Addy and grandpa Neal

Addy wants to always come up and see the horsies! So grandpa Neal took her outside to feed them their breakfast yesterday. She had a ball helping. You can see that the loft is very high up and it made me very nervous when Neal would turn his back, I was afraid Addy might fall. But she watched herself and helped her grandpa get those horsies fed!

Tyler and his band!

Tyler and a couple of friends have started a band. Tyler plays the drums and the other two have guitars, they were rocking the house the other night and Addy thought she would join in and have some fun. The boys had their guitars hooked up to amps and I thought i was going to go crazy! They have chosen 3 days a week to come to my house and practice! I told Tyler they can practice after school but need to be gone when I get home! Luckily he has a fairly large bedroom where they can all practice together, HMMM...I may have to have Neal build a sound proof room outside!

Rodeo Time!

Shelby is in her 3rd year of High School Rodeo which should start up the first week in April! Yes we have lots of practice yet to do as she has not been on her horse since November last year! We had a club meeting and they took some photos of the team for the yearbook, here is the team this year.

April 3 and 4th we will be in Farmington competing and then April 11th we will be in Tooele, anyone who wants to come and watch the support is greatly appreciated!! We have a lot of fun with rodeo.

Tyler's Spring Band Concert

Tyler is in the middle school band and plays percussion. We went to a Spring Concert the other night and as we walked in the door they were taking some group photos so I took the opportunity and took some myself!

Most people understand that percussion has to do with musical instruments, such as drums. However, it may surprise many persons to find out that percussion goes beyond what they may think of as percussion instruments. In reality, percussion relates to any type of musical instrument that is used to produces sounds through means of striking, sharking, scraping or plucking the instrument.
When most people think of a percussion instrument, drums come to mind. This is because drums are often used to help maintain and accentuate the beat of a melody. Whether a set of bongo drums, a snare drum, or a full set of drums, the effect of percussion is created by striking the drum heads with either drumsticks, drum brushes, or with the fingertips.

Along with drums, many people recognize cymbals as being sources of percussion. Cymbals may be used as a separate instrument, or as part of a drum set. Typically, cymbals are also used to help accentuate portions of the melody, sometimes adding a dramatic effect to the performance. When played in an orchestra or marching band, cymbals usually are placed at the rear of the procession.

Upcoming Junior Prom!!

Shelby will be going to her High School Junior Prom soon, the end of March (my gosh how time does fly!) This teenager GIRL stuff all over again is going to take some toll on Neal and I!! Our little girl is now on her way to adulthood. Makes us feel old??!!?? Shelby really likes a boy named McKay, his family is from Francis,UT but he actually lives with his father in Logan. She met him a few years ago and the Francis Frontier Days celebration which is held every year over Labor Day weekend and since Shelby has been in the reinging royalty the last two years we spend alot of time there. Anyway, she decided to ask McKay to come to her Junior prom with her. So she wanted a creative way to ask and this is what she did, she purchased a styrofoam cooler and on the lid she made a sign that said "It would be COOL if you would DEW me the favor of going to Junior Prom with me" and then inside the cooler she placed 6 cans of Mountain Dew in the cooler, on the bottom of each can she put each letter of her name S H E L B Y so that when he opened it up, he knew who was asking!! Since he happend to be in town over the weekend it made it quite easy, she left it on the doorstep where he was staying.

Later that day, he dropped on over and left this near her car!!

And this is the couple going to Junior Prom in a few weeks! Time to go shopping for the dress and shoes and all that fun stuff!

This is my new Valentines puppy "Bella" playing with the big dogs, Buddy, Roxi and Missy. She is just not afraid of them at all. After a fun day playing in the sunshine she was such a muddy mess from the snow (which is finally melting!!) that she had to have a bath.

This makes her look like an ugly drowned rat!! She is normally a cute little pup. This is how she goes to bed at night, she thinks she has taken over Neal's spot!

WHO KNOWS MAYBE SHE HAS??!! AND HE IS IN THE DOG HOUSE!!!! LOL!!
